Located in Appleton, WI, our group is a safe place for individuals of ages 18+ to be in community with others struggling with eating disorders. Though eating disorders are often throught to be extreme and recognized visually (with harsh labels such as anorexia, bulimia, extreme obesity, etc.), they can include undereating, overeating, comfort/stress eating, binge eating, purging, under or excessive exercise, compulsively "clean" eating, and obsessing over food in any capacity with no hope for freedom. Here we place our identity not in our eating disorder, but in Jesus Christ.
Eating disorders are not limited to those merely struggling with "body image issues" but often stem from and are fueled by one or more of the following: trauma, stress, anxiety, and/or shame. The shame from the disordered behavior itself perpetuates even more of the behavioral cycle and leads towards increased isolation. So many feel alone in the struggle, and this group's purpose is to pull indiviuals out of isoaltion and into sharing life with others.
This Bible study and care group is a weekly, long-term commitment that provides refuge, support, and camaraderie, offering a safe environment where listening, sharing, encouraging, and feedback is welcomed. It is a safe haven to be honest, open, and vulnerable concerning the struggle of eating disorders–thus bringing all into the light–while reflecting on the truth and promises of God's Word with others willing and committed to doing the same. Here, new friendships can develop, grow, and extend beyond the designated group time and provide healthy, meaningful relationships that last for years to come!
This group is not a treatment center, counseling session, 12-step program, or a quick-fix resolution. It is also not a casual show-up-when-one-can group; commitment to developing healthy friendships takes time and is essential.
General greeting time for entire group: Leader will provide a short overview and Scripture-based devotional. (20 minutes)
Examples: Embracing a Healthy Self (Psalm 139), Reaching Out for Support (Eccl. 4:9-12), Encourage One Another (Heb. 10:24-25), Renewing Your Mind (Rom. 12:2), Obedience Makes It Easier (Matt. 11:28-30)

What areas of my life am I struggling to surrenter/let go control of? Are there lies I have believed this past week that I need to renounce and replace with truth? What truth do I need to receive? What are some measurebale, achievable goals for this coming week?
Prayer time (15 minutes) Open time for prayer requests, praises, and intercession.
Conclusion and reassemblace (10 minutes) Small groups reconvene with large group. Dismissal will follow, but individuals are encouraged to stay and socialize.
